As they say, it’s “that time of year.” And what a year it’s been. Speaking for myself and our firm, it has been a time of both trial and joy. A year that started out fairly bleak -- no big surprise, given that over half our clients are financial services firms -- has ended on a surprisingly gratifying uptick. Starting early in the third quarter, our business began to expand through engagements in other areas (such as nonprofit and technology) as well as a significant rebound by those banks, insurance companies and investment managers who continue to turn to us when they want to better understand and connect with their customers. So rather than a December issue of Touchpoint Insights or a standard holiday letter, I’d like to focus my time and your attention on five nonprofits which we are proud to support, and whose good works are supported by amazingly selfless, dedicated individuals doing wonderful things for those less fortunate, both here at home and abroad. After all, the holiday season is a time for sharing and reflection – and recognizing that there are so many who need our support year-round. So please, join us in supporting these or other deserving charitable organizations. And have a very happy holiday, from all of us at MCorp Consulting. Cheers!

S.E.E.D.S: Providing grassroots relief efforts to some of Nepal’s poorest villages.
Can you help educate children like Dawa Norbu? Starting with donations from people like you, he earned his teaching degree in Kathmandu, returning to his remote village in Nubri Valley to teach children like him.
Bringing healthcare, education and critical social services to rural Nepal, S.E.E.D.S. works with village elders and local communities to jointly address their needs. Based in Kathmandu, Nepal, S.E.E.D.S is the vision of Executive Director and renowned trekking guide K.P. (Keshav) Kafli; a man I’ve been proud to call friend for nearly two decades. For as little as $50, you can provide books and food for the month to one of Dawa’s 80 students at the Sama School.

The Advance: Donate to projects you choose, knowing that 100% of your gift goes directly to those who need it.
From Nothing But Nets (Malaria) to school teachers in Malawi, you can pick and choose from over 1000 projects worldwide to send your funds directly to those who need it – with no overhead or administrative costs to diminish the power of your donations.
These are the kinds of clients we love. By allowing us to do good while doing what we do well, organizations like The Advance -- the designated giving arm of The United Methodist Church, which underwrites all overhead and administrative costs -- remind us what’s important, and give a spring to our step. If you’re looking for broad choice in your giving -- and need assurance that your funds will go where intended, as intended -- you won’t find a better organization than The Advance.

88Bikes: Provide children with the gift of autonomy and sustainability through bicycles. Support 2010 “the Moment of Happiness,” when 300 children rescued from slavery will receive their own bicycle, maintenance training, and a piece of freedom. Or contribute a bike to one of the 88Bikes Villages. Sometimes it’s a small opportunity rather than a large relief organization that helps change lives. 88Bikes works with children confronted by war, slavery, poverty and other hardships, providing freedom and autonomy through the gift of a bicycle. For only $88, you can contribute a bicycle and change one child’s life in one of the 88Bike villages in Afghanistan, Tanzania, Ghana, India, Nepal, Latin America, Vietnam and other locations.

Little Wishes: Change a life by granting a wish to a chronically ill or hospitalized child.
As a 5-year old diagnosed with leukemia, Sadie’s wish was to see a puppy during her chemotherapy. The simple gift of a furry visitor helped Sadie cope with her treatment and look forward to her future.
Children who are in the hospital for over a week, or are chronically ill, qualify for a wish. They tell the nurses what little comfort would make their day. Run by friend and neighbor pediatric nurse Laura Euphrat, Little Wishes is expanding nationally from its San Francisco base where over 3000 "Little Wishes" have been granted. Whether it’s a chess board, a CD player, or a visit with a puppy, Little Wishes knows how to grant wishes and spread joy to kids who deserve a small piece of sunshine.

The Ritter Center: Helping homeless and working poor in Marin County.
More working poor seek help at shelters in the tough economy. Help people like William keep a roof over his head through the holidays.
Even in a place like Marin, there are plenty of people living without -- and it’s not just the homeless who need help this holiday season. With your donation, the Ritter Center helps people like William, a fixed-income retiree, who got assistance with his rental deposit and health services. The Ritter Center helps 4,000 of the County’s most vulnerable residents and provides a vital safety net in hard times. If you are in another area, consider looking up your local shelter to make a donation.
